"In most societies, women are more religious than men." this is only true if you're counting different Christian countries as 'different societies', and if you are it's a pretty meaningless claim.

At least it was an interesting idea, I never thought about it this way. My guess would be that in most societies women are still raised up to keep a low profile and not to be confrontational. If you have a religious background, becoming an atheist means potentional...

... confrontation with the family which may be a motivation not to doubt the own belief too much. I'm a man and don't have a religiously strict family and even for me this was sth. which slowed me down to accept that I don't believe anymore.
