I'm reminded of the "hot-or-not" internet sites that went viral in the early 90s which invited visitors to rate the attractiveness of anonymous picture submissions. It confirmed that a general consensus about who is attractive exists and provided regular doses of brutal honesty.

Well an unattractive person's parents found eachother attractive enough to have them. It makes sense they would see themselves as attractive. And they probably find people who are physically unattractive in similar ways more attractive as well.
