Too many big words for me, but could it be that people who resort to spanking these days are less educated, more prone to violence, less patience and more emotional outbursts, thus it is not just spanking but personality of parents that causes ill in those who are spanked?

The point is, whatever the personality makeup of the parent may be, they share its genetic basis with their offspring.

I don't understand :(

Spanked children do not show symptoms because of having been spanked, but because of inheriting a genetic disposition that made their parents spank them.

Hm. I read this as saying being spanked as a child has less effect on an adult's personality than do genetic predispositions. Including, I suppose, the predisposition to spank one's children.
