Does this mean anything more than that visual mental imagery is self-generated? Only Anthroposophists believe that imagination were a perception of Higher Planes, no?
During visual perception, the occipital lobe contributes stuff like edges, color, motion. Mental imagery seems not to need that apparatus to recreate these features.
Oh, that’s fascinating! So when I look at your (magnificent) Twitter icon & close my eyes & still see the afterimage, the brain must perform a switch or handover between brain regions to maintain the imagery, no?
Sounds about right. The brain might also draw on visual memory, which seems not to be stored in the (visual) occipital cortex.
