Really bizarre way to interpret it. It's known that the bowerbird males steal ornaments from each other and mess up each other's bowers. Makes sense, in a species where the females visit the bowers in the area and the best bowers+display gets to have the majority of copulations

Seems obvious that the males around the uber-enriched bower would mess it up, because otherwise, the owner of that bower would get all the mating in that particular area. It has nothing to do with *putting him in his place* or *keeping him honest*
