Interesting. This is in the US and Europe? I live in India where culturally left handedness as a kid is not frowned upon but not encouraged either. And from amongst my circle of over 100 people, I would think left-handers are at most 4-5. China may also be along same lines.

I’d say another big reason is the necessity of left handers or footers for that matter in many sports. Left-backs in football for example.
