Lotsa people talking about porn on the TL recently. Just going to re-up this piece we published back in September, which points out that lot of the claims made about porn's supposed harms are exaggeratedhttps://quillette.com/2019/09/12/anti-pornography-campaigners-pseudo-scientific-treadmill/ …

Alot of the arguments are centered around children, so it does affect them more

Can you cite any evidence that arguments are centered around children, and that it affects them more?

The better educated are particularly likely to succumb to the third person effect, assuming that pornography has worse effects on others - the dumb ones - than on themselves. https://onlinelibrary.wiley.com/doi/abs/10.1111/j.1460-2466.1995.tb00712.x?casa_token=19DNPYjrOeQAAAAA:fi89xiHZfE7GlMYltfWnDCB_k7fuOw_dRMAJEdzSMZU8KLVBZMXA_Bkt7w27_6tEdX1F48bif68RozAorries …pic.twitter.com/We5cZqziZn

I think there’s an implicit bias here. How many people have had the courage to admit that porn has had bad effects on them personally?
-
I'd rather think they notice very well that it is completely harmless if they use it, but they think others are susceptible sissies. That jibes with a broad psychology research tradition on self enhancement.

I can only speak anecdotally but I’ve met numerous people who are prepared to say it’s had devastating effects on them.
