Rolf, the abstract is misleading. The replication was in fact quite successful. Please see this thread:https://twitter.com/JonHaidt/status/1201912377941413888?s=20 …

The editor, two reviewers, and I respectfully disagree with the claim that the abstract is misleading. I stand by every word. It concluded that "replication success rate was 30% and effect sizes were 38 times smaller than those in the original study."

One could make a case that breathless overhyping of claims is one reason many fields are in a bit of a bind. Breathless overhyped claims in tweets about that are not better.

I agree. This is poor science journalism that conflates study with paper and theory. More accurate take is "Direct and conceptual replications find, overall, that politics relate to moral foundations in the same way but at a much reduced effect size."

This specific effect might not have replicated, but the differences in the self-reported scale use is huge and replicated, right?
-
Yeah, the scale one is as solid as they come. Also, the last sentence of the abstract makes it sound like the basic patterns largely held up except for loyalty

There have been multiple conceptual replications of the original study in communication and political science. There’s even a new MFD to deal with latent moral content In text from
@MediaNeuro which demonstrates largely similar effects to the 2009 paperThanks. Twitter will use this to make your timeline better. UndoUndo

Attention
@john_f_hamer: those of us who appreciate (some of) Haidt's work have a duty to take this seriously -
Wow! Not a good decade for social psychology. I’ve had to rewrite my course outlines every semester for the last three years because of all these changes.
