This goes counter to the notion that parenting matters little in the end and outcomes depend mostly on inherited IQ and other heritable traits.
No it doesn't, because it doesn't explain how the differences between twins come to be despite both of them getting the same environment and amount of high education. IQ is still consistently the single greatest predictor of life outcomes.
Parenting doesn't matter for non-cognitive traits, like personality. It has been known that shared environment matters for cognitive traits, which this study clarifies.
Then how do you explain the millions of folks in some parts of the world who are of high IQ but of little-to-no education, and, many more folks of high amounts of education but only average IQ?
The evidence suggests that in Western countries upbringing has an effect on cognitive measures - in the lower classes. We know very little about dynamics in underdeveloped countries. Your questions are topics of ongoing research, but I would like to see a quantification of claims
