Isn't it fairly straightforward that we would willingly risk momentary pain for the reward of satisfying curiosity? Even if the shock always happened as a result and it was known beforehand, I think a large percentile would still accept it.

You could use it as a point for debating that we prioritize a gain over a loss, mental over physical stimuli, positive and negative over lack of any, but I'm pretty sure it's as simple as that the negative stimuli didn't even come close to the positive feedback.
