Although "mindfulness" is incessantly praised to the skies in the media, more mindful individuals were not the least bit more prosocial, affectionate, or positive in their daily lives. https://journals.plos.org/plosone/article?id=10.1371/journal.pone.0206029 …pic.twitter.com/LIh1mVz234

For me it’s just a buzzword which can be sold nowadays. Still, did people practicing “mindfulness” feel happier? If yes, that would already be a good result despite how it’s projected outside. Otherwise, why people do this?

Indicators of well-being were not more pronounced among more mindful individuals. Why do people do this? Oh my God, people are prone to practice the craziest things, because of the incredible power of belief.

I found the few times I experienced it relaxing. Then again just lying eyes closed listening to someone slowly soothingly talking is relaxing. Only in that moment though.

The purpose of this meditation, at least from what Buddha intended it to be, was not to increase prosociality or positivity, but to decrease his concept of suffering, which included negative feelings and also positive feelings, because "craving for happiness leads to suffering."

Mindfulness meditation has been mis-sold in modern times as a panacea for all sorts of human issues and especially to increase happiness. The meditation was never invented for that reason.
