Isn't there a difference, though, between being disgusted by an unrelated factor (as this study induces) and being disgusted by THE topic of debate, ie gay marriage, etc.?

I can imagine certain stimuli becoming a metaphor for moral repugnance, but that would be an individual sort of symbolism that wouldn’t generalize in an experiment.
