This makes complete sense in a situation like a 3-point contest. You start by missing a couple shots, you're going to try adjusting, and it's easy to get all out of whack. You make the first handful of shots, and you relax and let the muscle memory do its job.

They didn't control for position along the arc, either. I don't know if it's true, but commentators always say that some players are better at different angles to the basket.

I played plenty of craps. If you set up the proper limiting factors, esp bet per roll and total wager per session, hot hand is revealed.

It makes sense that when one is doing anything well they are at their "maximum skill" in many cases (not just luck) so they succeed more in their max skill phase. As they succeed they continue to remember that skill and continue.
