Now you are talking about filter bubbles. This has also been refuted, here for one of the many examples I have seen:pic.twitter.com/q3ZZjIFdgt

The moral panic about social media is old stuff. The story of media effects research began with an unquestioned belief in large effects, was shocked by the incongruous results, and decomposed into sometimes some small effects under some special conditions.https://twitter.com/DegenRolf/status/1167413930983067648 …
Rolf Degen added,
It is "old stuff" because it is a repeat of similar accusations that were made against (and later refuted) every new medium. It began 1929 with the Payne Fund Studies that sought to prove the "bad" effects of movies. It was the first to fail.
Advertising effects are also dramatically overestimated. Has effects on upstream things like attention or memory, but almost none on real behavior. The dirty secret of the field. I have once written a research review on this.
