Fascinating findings Rolf! A minor point but those of us who happen to have cats in our homes see ourselves more like staff than owners (and I'm sure the cats see the reporting relationship that way too). :)

It seems to be related with socioeconomics. Those with dogs ownership are supposed to have better housing conditions, including backyard... thus, based on de"structuralist avocado theory" people with higher economic status are prone to be republican's voters.
