I've had to have injections, once had an IV drip, and have experienced myself and other people bleeding. These things still make my skin crawl; seeing myself bleeding from a cut still makes me feel faint, and slowly lose consciousness.

Isn't this related to neophobia? Roughly, "Green Eggs and Ham syndrome" to non psychologists? You can have strong aversions to new things, and there's clearly a survival mechanism at work here. Also isn't there a "broken bone in childhood" thing with adult males?
