Thinking about this, there is a whole buch of exceptionally good movies that are based on novels that I haven't read but where it is hard to believe the books are as magnificent as the the movies. To name just a few: About Schmidt, Cape Fear, Up in the Air.

If you mean the *book* Blade Runner, maybe, but Philip K. Dick's Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep was the superior work between the movie and the book, IMO. ;P
