In education there is actually appears to be an inverse relationship between self esteem and student achievement. White girls have some of the lowest self esteem but some of the highest average gpa’s.

The problem with the term self-esteem, is that it is too vague. Self-valuation, or how one values oneself - accurately or otherwise - and by what means, provides "some" insight into behavior and emotions.
-
Self-image - how we appear to ourselves and how we think we appear to others - has a psychological impact as well.

Its really hard to learn about behavior without any clue on neurobiology or neurochemistry. Jussayin.

It's astounding to me to find how many physiologist have zero clue in that area. I believe it truly depends on where they're educated.

Does lack of self esteem be a more interesting topic? Like people having poor self esteem but high conscientiousness being overly successful to compensate or something in the like?

Sadly, most psychologists don't understand what self-esteem actually is, much less how to get it or evaluate it.

Yeah. Any idea why such uninformative research gets top billing? Or isn’t made more informative?

People think it’s intrinsically valuable? Ie it doesn’t have to explain anything; we want to know how to explain it
