Could be, but most likely they weren't. Point is this, selection for higher jewish iq must have started at some point, there is absolutely no evidence of higher jewish iq before they became a diaspora population, on the contrary. So what's the more likely explanation?

Ancient phoenicians made more innovative and technological contributions than the ancient jewish kingdoms. Maybe the babylonian captivity kickstarted it, but before that there is zero indications jews were smarter than their neighbours. Today it's glaringly obvious that they are.
