That actually *isn't* disgust, but a reaction to what was smelt causing pain to them. As soon as it was removed from the dog's immediate olfactory area, it was done with it, and had no animus to the stinky thing, whatever it is.

There is no disgust in animals, because disgust requires enculturation.pic.twitter.com/1R7TZIIGF2

https://www.researchgate.net/publication/325564859_Feeding_decisions_under_contamination_risk_in_bonobos … Any opinion on Bonobos having disgust? I mean they seem to be the most sexually aroused primates I've ever seen.

The paper actually says "We cannot conclude that bonobos were showing evidence of disgust in our experiments," The full blown disgust response as defined is only seen in encultured humans, but there may be evolutionary precursors.

I actually agree with you. I was just asking for your personal opinion.

I agree with Rozin & Haidt. Animals & young children don't show disgust responses to typical human elicitors like faeces or vomit. Triggers of "real" disgust (vs distaste, like to bitter) must be learned through culture, so triggers vary interculturally.

Which is why in some cultures they have no issue walking around completely nude, or ritual cannibalism, etc. etc.? Because that's part of culturally-learnt disgust, rather than dislike?

The evolved function seems to be to make people adaptable to the preferences of their local cuisines and value systems - beyond the stuff that is innate, like distaste of bitter ect...

You will find a nice example of the cuisine mechanism at the end of this tweet: https://twitter.com/DegenRolf/status/1088081705355890688 … Domesticated (not tame) animals show more dislikes, they don't show disgust. That is uniquely human.
