But I wonder what Daren Brown would think about the death of social priming. Has he made a successful career showcasing a nonexistent effect?

It isn't just that it systematically fails to replicate, there was never a sound theoretical basis suggesting it would work, but compelling reasoning that it can't work, e.g., https://plus.google.com/101046916407340625977/posts/FdGxGCnykeC …

What about Maier’s hanging rope task experiment, way back around 1930? Do you know if that has been replicated or not? It still gets cited widely.

I just researched this and found out that it failed to replicate already decades ago, when replications were not yet that en vogue. @msbehavingbrain https://twitter.com/msbehavingbrainhttps://onlinelibrary.wiley.com/doi/pdf/10.1111/j.1949-8594.1985.tb09594.x …pic.twitter.com/8P600az8QF

Does that mean that Rob Cialdini’s book “pre-suasion” which is centered around PRIMING, is now meaningless??????
-
A lot of our textbooks still used in classes, and several best selling popular books are now meaningless, at least to a disconcerting degree. Spreading untruths has now a bad name.
