Sorry, the NYT picture may be misleading: It is only an example of the many media reports touting unproven effects. The article is by two renowned researchers, one from the Nobel selection committee in economics. The study linked in your tweet is from an animal study, by the way.

I thought higher male risk taking due to gamete abundance is a core idea of evopsyche.. seems like it would be a significant blow to the field if this were false?

That hypothesis would not necessarily imply that you can boost risk taking by giving people more T, also, T levels may well just be an accompanying symptom, rather than the cause of risk taking.

Were they taking sensitivity to testosterone into account? Test levels on their own don't give a full picture.

Once total T is at least about 500, free T becomes more important than raising total T even more. T to E ratio also a factor.
