I think what he is critiquing (correct me if I'm wrong, Rolf) is the fact that the study seriously suggests that a past life as the opposite sex can be a cause of childhood gender nonconformity.

No, I agree. Which is why I think Rolf's tweet was overblown. Bit of a storm in a teacup if you ask me. That said, I haven't read the paper, so I don't know how scientifically sound the study actually was. It may well have been crap.
