This segment seems to ignore the fact that the irreligious are mostly ex-religious. Their numbers are not swelled through procreation but rather through education, understanding and knowledge.

As I discussed in a related Tweet, the psychological traits that predispose some people (mostly males, the big puzzle) to be atheists or to abandon existing faith are the crux of the matter, and are certainly affected by genes, as are ALL psychological traits.

I am a lifelong atheist woman I had only one child. My 2 childhood friends both Christian both had 3. All of us by choice. My child is the youngest (16)by a few years. I am the only one that raised her child with no religion but as far as I know at least 5 are atheist.

It's hard to tell how this will play out in the long run. Current lapses from faith may be a just secular phenomenon overrun at last by outbreeding. Also, it only takes place with Christians, not in Islam. Also, the large majority of atheists are men, for unknown reasons.

If western civilisation is to survive, it needs a new religion (L. religare) that will unite its peoples. Divided as it is now, it will surely fall. I'm working on one, which is secular, of course, & Darwinian, but not without spirituality. A 1st draft should be ready next year.
