Observant parents see this in play rooms. Got a 2 + 4 year old boy, beating each other up/getting beaten up or a toy car they didn't care about 5 minutes earlier until another boy showed interest, same aged girl looks on as if they were savages, inviting them to play together.

The word 'already' is what we know as discursive capture. It implies that 5 years as a time period, and the period of 3-5 years of age, is not an immensely long time in terms of intensive socialisation. It is.

No need to be so competitive to pass on our DNA. There are always willing males available.

I wonder whether they're really egalitarian as such, or hierarchical and competitive, but anti-meritocratic. Different things

Girls are also more likely to be socially/psychologically cruel than boys, who are more physically oriented. https://www.verywellfamily.com/do-girls-and-boys-bully-differently-460494 …pic.twitter.com/SYuTijne7U
