Ah, except that we're already building applications that are based on the flawed causal assumption and charge people money for it +https://twitter.com/itschekkers/status/1028345330193129473 …

But this start-up will of course be very responsible in how it communicates those correlational results. Surely they wouldn't uncritically retweet comments that spin the results to look causal https://twitter.com/EricTopol/status/1027326164635811840 … +pic.twitter.com/zibufge4qk

It's a complete mystery why premature conclusions from suboptimal studies (1.2 million participants sadly don't turn a correlational study into an experiment) can be so pervasive and stick around forever ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

But there ARE actual experimental studies i.e. with random assignment that DO show causality - with some of the biggest effect sizes for any intervention.https://onlinelibrary.wiley.com/doi/abs/10.1111/j.1468-2850.2006.00021.x …

I am not sure this is settled: "Trials with less risk of bias suggested no antidepressant effects of exercise and there were no significant effects of exercise on quality of life, depression severity or lack of remission during follow-up. "https://bmjopen.bmj.com/content/7/9/e014820 …
