Amazing but hard-pressed to think Wall Street/Manhattan/NYC was not or is not a contender.

Let's present statistical noise based on a highly questionable operationalization of an already complex psychological construct, then cherrypick the noise in a way that grabs people's attention.

In the context of an overall urban bias, this point about politics really can't be supported unless there's an apples to apples comparison of DC to other metro cores of comparable scale and density (and even then it's anecdotal).

Just reading the abstract, and looking at table 1 (state scores/ranks) this looks like the rating could be correlated to population density. DC, being the only 'state' with no rural area, naturally scores high. I'd like to see the scores plotted agains state population density.

Psychopathy and other dark triad traits could also be adaptive in the context of power-seeking. Having fewer qualms about using hardball or exploitative practices when the net benefit appears to be positive could be useful in obtaining political success. Maybe a nonlinear effect?

My speculation has been that it is adaptive to the context as an evolutionary trait. Maybe the equivalence is the perceived power provided by the job for the power seeker?
