Semi-serious opinion: we should ban the word 'trauma' in the psychological sense. It has become all-encompassing and is forcing out other words and discourses of distress and suffering.

Clinicians have a tendency to psychopathologize others, it has often been joked about and might be due to self-selection of personalities. But it is also a business model, you make people decide about "disorder" who make a living by treating it.

True, there is also a tendency to derive a perverted form of satisfaction from defining others as victims. But in the end, there is something that made the Freudian view so seductive, the injured child as a metaphor for humanity.
