Neither being an ethics professor nor completing academic ethics classes leads to any measurable improvement in moral behavior. http://schwitzsplinters.blogspot.com/2018/06/does-it-harm-philosophy-as-discipline.html …pic.twitter.com/C0LI9lQq5o

One possible reason why neither ethicists nor ethics class graduates show any improvements in moral behavior is that people are only motivated to behave "just good enough", compared to others, in order not to end as suckers in the evolutionary game of life http://schwitzsplinters.blogspot.com/search/label/ethics%20professors …pic.twitter.com/45Br9V2VY1

Even Peter Singer, who is often portrayed as a near-saint, shows clear signs of the above discussed sucker-avoidance mechanism. http://reason.com/archives/2000/12/01/the-pursuit-of-happiness-peter …pic.twitter.com/X4t6wGv3kA

How on earth can this be measured though? Is someone who gives charitably more or less ethical than someone who has issues with charity spending and chooses instead to offer twice as much equivalent value in direct volunteering hours?

This is true, in general. But especially for that reason, the authors measured a wide array of diverse moral behaviors, The fact that results agreed across situations speaks for the validity of the interpretation.

You show many studies saying what doesn’t improve ethics. I’m curious what does?

Haven't seen anything. The more interesting theories concern reasons why morality cannot be changed, eg people having an inborn moral set point, or trying to behave just good enough, comparing to others.

I wonder whether they distinguished between types of moral philosophy? I think studying the Nicomachean Ethics made me aware of the value of establishing virtuous habits, utilitarianism convinced me that vegetarianism wd be a good habit...

If, and until, ethics and morality no longer require agreement on what is ethical and moral can any real measurable improvement be made?
