these companies get their services to be used by lying to faculty. I get tons of emails that advertise these things to "track attendance." Of course they leave out the information is also tracking student locations all the time, under the guise profs will think it's nbd.

Yeah, this makes sense. Now that I think of it, our Uni has also fallen prey to such marketing and when they install what they believe is an antivirus on undergrads' devices during orientation (idek why this is even required) is essentially a tracking s/w by a shady company.
