A curious mind wants to know. What does Hinton mean by "directed" or "undirected" models?

To way over simplify: directed means you have training data, and mostly know what you want the AI to do. eg teaching an AI to ID different breeds of dogs by giving it pictures and breeds to train on. Undirected is having the AI find patterns you didn't know about in the data

Are you certain that is what he meant or are you just making this up? Has Hinton ever used the word 'directed' to mean the same as 'supervised'?

I'm 99% certain that's NOT what he meant by direct and undirected. He was referring to directed and undirected probabilistic graph midels.
Ie. The boltzmann machine is an undirected graph, while bayseian networks are directed graphs.Does the brain have directed neurons, or not?
