Holy sugary drink tax! Finally saw this w/ my own eyes. $10.34 of tax on a pack of Gatorade in #Seattle. 💸
Costco also reminding you hey - no tax on this outside the city. Thoughts??

This will hurt Seattle business owners in so many ways- People will REFUSE to pay tax that is more than the product ITSELF- well see HOW long this lasts! Pierce county for one will see an influx of business!

When I was in Chicago,1970s, there was cigarette tax, but not in Indiana. I would drive 40 miles to Indiana & buy myself multiple packs to last me at least month
Same is going 2 happen 2 Seattle. Buy in bulk outside of Seattle, STOP buying in Seattle
But admin cost stay the same.

Feel for the Mom & Pop shops of the ID, CD, & South Seattle that are a staple in those communities. Razor thin margins to begin with when competing w chain convenience stores.

I love the statement. I appreciate Costco's reminder to save money elsewhere - doing so keeps me a Costco customer. Seeing Gatorade at such a taxed price in Seattle does not lend itself to keeping me as a Costco member.

Glad I live in Pierce County. Is orange juice taxed too? Lots of sugar.

Not if it’s 100% juice and doesn’t have added sugar!

Still not bad price for 16 oz less than buck each, pricing looks like canada. US has obesity problem which drags on healthcare costs, this is user pay or move to income tax to pay for added costs.

Hi Angie, I asked the city about that. I’m told it’s a one time cost to hire people and expand the Fresh Bucks program. The following year, there will be a much smaller administrative cost.
