I'm compiling a list on my website of ways young people, teachers, politicians, and others can educate, inspire, and advocate on the topic of voting rights. I'll be adding to the page on an ongoing basis; I welcome your suggestions. Visit for the list.

Today is a shameful day for the US Senate, a somber day for the US Constitution, & a sad day for the United States of America. But I hope – deeply hope – people won’t give up. We fight for a government that works for everyone – not just the rich, the powerful, & the corrupt.

Trayvon Martin would have been 25 today. His legacy is honored every day by those who fight to end police violence and dismantle our country's legacy of racial terror. Happy birthday, Trayvon.

Voters need to trust the election process, regardless of who is operating the system. Mistakes were made in Iowa, and voters' confidence has been shaken. But people should not lose faith in our democracy. We must keep voting, while we demand accountability and improvement.

OK, I've actually caucused now. And I don't think we should have caucuses. For women, for working people, for people with disabilities - and folks who fall into more than one of those categories - it's just not fair.

To the woman who refused to move. To the woman who tried to register to vote three times. To the woman who championed civil rights and equality for all. Happy Birthday Rosa Parks.

Today's spotlight is on Frances E.W. Harper, a poet and suffragette, who focused her work on suffrage for Black people and women. She joined the American Woman Suffrage Association and wrote poetry that brought awareness to the issues faced by Black people in the 1800s.

The misguided apoplexy of cable news pundits unable immediately to announce winners and blaming (perhaps correctly) a component of the election night reporting infrastructure is an object lesson in how perception hacking could work in the general election.

The worst thing about Iowa isn’t having to wait for the results (we’ll get those). It’s that the state party’s failure sows distrust in results. It shouldn’t. Below, Brennan Center election security expert on the real lessons of Iowa.

Hey, Michigan: Are you hearing about the and worry about our state? We use paper ballots. We do, however, need additional time to process absent voter ballots before Election Day.
