In a deaf school in 1938, 5 year old David received a letter from his mother. Knowing he was learning language through symbols and pictures, she illustrated her letter -- happy with this means of communication, David went around the school sharing his letters.
A letter mixed with text and pictogram. It says Dear David, Mama hopes David is out of bed and back in school playing with the boys and the girls. Mama and Daddy were so glad to see David this morning. Mama washed clothes. Then Curtis and mama went out doors for a walk. Curtis saw a large black cat. the cat was sitting on a fence. Curtis found a small stick and played with the cat. When we got back to Grandpa's house, Curtis and Mama made doughnuts. By & by Aunt Elizabeth and Uncle Cecil are coming in a brown auto to Grandpa's house. Mama is going to to get the rolling pin to make a pie. Now Mama is going downstairs and see Grandpa. Curtis is a sloppy boy. Daddy has gone to work with his light and lunch and by and by when it is all black out doors Daddy will come home. Love to mama's big boy. From Mama.

“Nothing about us without us” Deaf Californian leaders frequently say this and now I bring that to Arizona. I hope legislators will not make decisions but be open to sit with calm, mature Deaf individuals to supporting leg. when writing to protect and preserve our community.

Troy flew down last night with his interpreter, Justin and talked to the senators from Government committee and the education committee. The 8:30 am meeting with Hoffman as Chairman was brutal and he had an agenda. 2 pm meeting was friendly. #sackwadsack #azad

3/7 BARGAINING UPDATE We are proud of the historic agreement to include ASL in the bilingual program and to offer fairer pay to ASL educators. The district isn't feeling enough pressure to move on the crises facing public schools. On March 15th, we're turning up the heat.
