Yet another San Francisco Department head has been charged with corruption. This time, Harlan Kelly, General Manager of the SFPUC. He resigned yesterday, joining an ever growing list of high level San Francisco appointees forced out by corruption charges.
Government corruption isn’t just about abuse of power—it creates distrust in government that fuels a privatization agenda and corporate profits. Nothing aids and abets the right wing, capitalist agenda like public corruption.
Just this year: Director of DPW, indicted; Director of DBI, resigns amidst corruption allegations; Director of Mayor’s Office of Neighborhood Services, removed from office after being charged; SFPUC General Manager charged with public corruption. And that’s a partial list.
The Mayor’s response has been underwhelming, to put it charitably, with no proposals for systemic change and no overhaul of senior leadership (except for accepting resignations or removing department heads once they are indicted).

FYI - Stifling the free press with retaliatory public funding decisions is a form of corruption. It’s an abuse of power. Please reconsider your actions from yesterday and put the public interest above personal. What’s wrong in principle, is wrong in practice... by either side.

Amazing how you turn government corruption into a capitalist problem. Tell us which scenario is more likely to lead to government corruption: A) system based on small govt/free market capitalism. 2) big govt socialism based on progressive policies. It ain't a difficult answer.
