This is a good start. Do we have anything in progress to stop the actual vandalism and broken windows (in addition to funding to repair them once it happens)? Our place had another attempted breakin last night. 9x in 3 months.

Good grief, Dean Preston. The City now directly pays the damages of crime with tax dollars, instead of fighting crime in the first place. Is this really what we've come to?

NYC (1990s): Broken windows policing --> dramatic decrease in crime. SF (2020): Defunding SFPD & refusal to prosecute criminals --> crime skyrocketing (e.g., burglaries). Is @DeanPreston fixing the problem? Nope, just having the gov't pay for the property crimes with tax $$.

As much as I don’t agree with chesa and dean Preston, the broken window policing being responsible for the dramatic decrease in crime is a myth. This is a great book. A little outdated in terms of methods used thohttps://www.amazon.com/City-That-Became-Safe-Lessons/dp/0199324166/ref=nodl_ …

What a complete joke. If I owned a biz in D5, I’d tell you and Chesa to take your window money and stick it.

Wikipedia: “In ordinary language, a crime is an unlawful act punishable by a state or other authority.” If smashing window it’s rewarded with $$, let’s call it “a pastime”, it’s more appropriate. @TheMarinaTimes

If you don't take a Broken Windows approach to crime, you're going to wind up fixing a lot of broken windows...
