Yup, so I was right - amongst all the junk there were three(😳) super-rare #Rowtron “Home Programmer” cartridges in the box, recovered from a house clearance!

About to go live with a big Rowtron unboxing, which I’m hoping will prove very interesting :) #RetroRefurbs #APVS1292 #Signetics2650 #Rowtron twitch.tv/deadfleshretro

I’m using a TS-100 with a very narrow tip, which helped to get heat under the cap & into the pads precisely. I also added leaded solder to the pads. I was quite surprised they came off so easily that way, it seemed like an absolute last resort when I did the first one like that.

I must say, though, that I stopped removing the old smd caps with hot air, as the first three took so much heat they popped & I was v worried I was going to damage the board. Using a single soldering iron & heating both pads progressively till the cap slid off worked much better!

It’s so amazing to watch what’s going on with the MSX-based Canadian NABU computer, that was part of one of the first cable-download networks in history. A simply joyous resurrection is underway :)

Back in the early 80s, this cool and innovative Z80 based computer was released to consumers in Canada. After all these years, the NABU Personal Computer is back. What cool things can the community create for it? Video: youtube.com/watch?v=HLYjZo

I think this might be the absolute filthiest Radofin 1292 I’ve ever seen, and it has the most unique jury-rigged joystick handles - fair play to the kids who once owned this machine! 🙌🎉🕹️

Latest prototypes as we experiment with different finishes. It’s looking like acetone softens the plastic too much & even though it hardens later it’s a bit hit & miss. Sanding & polishing now looks like the best option. Still a little way to go though… :)

In all my years of messing around with ZX Spectrums, I’ve never understood why there are reserved bytes at the very end of its memory map. I knew it was something to do with interrupts, but still seemed daft. Turns out the reason for it is 100% GENIUS!!

It still needs new joystick handles, but apart from that this machine is all finished and working beautifully. It genuinely gives me a thrill to have the controller buttons as responsive as they were when it left the factory 🙌❤️🕹️

Looking at finally getting a proper hot air station as I need to do some smd work, and am wondering whether the Yihua 959D is any good - it seems decent at the price (£71 on Amazon) but has anyone got one, tried one, binned one in disgust?
This #ITT2020 Apple II Clone really needs a good home & some tlc. It's in Toronto, but is a 240v model originally bought in Hong Kong by the current owner. It's a pretty rare piece of Apple & British computing history - DM me if interested & I'll put you in touch. Please RT!

I’ve been offered an ITT 2020 British Apple II clone w disk drives & monitor but I have no room for it. It’s in Canada & needs rescuing. Don’t know condition but it’s been dry stored since the early 90s. Is there a good home for it somewhere? Please RT! en.wikipedia.org/wiki/ITT_2020

Test handle 4 is the best so far, using brass extension studs. Need to conduct more tests using 12mm through-threaded tubing next. Also need to experiment with 2-tone plastic designs. The finish is definitely improving though! 👍🕹️🙌
