As someone who does this work for Overwatch, I find it highly rewarding to work on what is arguably the most important position for content development productivity. It doesn't matter how fast anything else is if the asset pipeline is slow. So if you are interested check it out!

If you have any questions about this type of work feel free to go ahead and ask. I know the people currently work on it, I do this type of work, and I have worked with them on designing the new system so I can either answer any questions or point you in the right direction.

I am a big proponent for reaching for jobs you don't technically qualify for but think you can do. I am also a big believer that picking up additional languages is easier than the last.

Woah games pipeline people, never thought I’d see that one. Cool

Pipeline work in games does tend to mostly just get assigned to a random system's engineer but occasionally there are some of us dedicated to it.

Hmm, that doesn't look so hard. It's just a little bit of editor UI and a database backend for assets and a source control connection to third party tools... It just sounds really labor intensive for one engineer.

Like most programming, lots of key typing and compiler hamster wheel turning.

I don't believe so, but I will find out and if so apply to it myself ;) But honestly, pretty sure not.
