Ended up asking questions of five women and four men, and three men *told me off* for not picking them afterwards (we only got through about a quarter of the raised hands).

I always ask the first question of women when I chair, and it makes a huge difference, with far more women putting their hands up. Small thing, but genuinely important if you want a gender balance in a floor discussion.

Also, if you want good questions, go round the room. If you want "this is more of a statement than a question, it comes in 18 parts and contains my entire biography and a proclamation that I know more about this than you" monologues, pick exclusively from the front row.

I think that cartoon should be flashed up at every event before questions are sought from the floor!

I feel like there should be a rule; if your question takes longer than 20 seconds, we're moving onto the next person. I absolutely loathe the rambling question that turns into a speech from the floor.

And the chairing notes should also say "Don't be afraid to interrupt someone and literally cut them off for doing this" I'm THAT sick of it. Count them down, with an arrogance that matches their own. "5,4,3,2,1. Okay, sit down, we're moving on"
