Male journalists, do academics email you essentially asking you to do their research/googling for them, or is this another instance where women get treated like a public service.
Social scientists mostly given my field. Are people emailing you looking for quotes, or just clueless?

Most recently it was someone writing a piece on the October Revolution who effectively wanted me to do their research for them

As an archivist and historian I get it a lot from journalists. If it's something I can find out in half an hour and they credit the organisation I work for, that's fine. Working in public rather than academic history it's part of my job

OTOH if it looks like it's going to take hours and I'll get minimal credit, I tell them what my day rate is. I'm happy to help, I'm not going to do their job for them
