Hi! I'm a writer not editor so don't pitch me. Find an editor for the section you want to write for & send them a pitch not a finished piece

If your idea's interesting, editors will often want to discuss details/angles: few editors have time to read a finished piece to reject it.

Lots of pubs have pitching guidelines online. Follow them, and keep it short:
What's the story?
Why now?
Why you?
Why this publication?1 reply 1 retweet 15 likesShow this thread -
Do go to commissioning editors, rather than ask writers to pitch on your behalf. If it's a good pitch, it'll stand up on its own merit.

If a publication have just published something on this topic, they're unlikely to take another unless there's a really imperative new angle.

Cannot stress this enough - every time I write something I get 5-10 writers pitching me near identical columns, and PRs bombarding me.

Every day I get ppl pitching me direct or asking me to pitch on their behalf. I can't do either, you just have to go through proper channels

This isn't critical of anyone who does this, just (hopefully, helpfully) pointing out the best way to pitch and get responses from editors.
