Do go to commissioning editors, rather than ask writers to pitch on your behalf. If it's a good pitch, it'll stand up on its own merit.

If a publication have just published something on this topic, they're unlikely to take another unless there's a really imperative new angle.

Cannot stress this enough - every time I write something I get 5-10 writers pitching me near identical columns, and PRs bombarding me.

Every day I get ppl pitching me direct or asking me to pitch on their behalf. I can't do either, you just have to go through proper channels

This isn't critical of anyone who does this, just (hopefully, helpfully) pointing out the best way to pitch and get responses from editors.
