Not quite sure if it counts as science — more histsci— but have you read How To Survive A Plague, the huge book about AIDS in the USA? I couldn’t put it down.

or if you are feeling the plague vibe, "Pale Rider" by Laura Spinney is a really good history of the 1918-20 flu pandemic. It's really well done, science, history, elevating interesting voices and perspectives.

I thought A Brief History of Everyone Who Ever Lived by Adam Rutherford was great, a sort of history told via genetics.

The Physics of Star Trek is a deeply nerdy, yet interesting, read. I'm unsure I'd encourage any functional human being to embark upon it though

More information technology than science but scratched a similar itch to me, I adored The Chinese Typewriter by Thomas S. Mullaney. To be more medical The Emperor Of All Maladies: A Biography Of Cancer by Siddharta Mukherjee is a fascinating and accessible (and heartening) read

The End of Everything by
@AstroKatie and Unnatural Causes by Richard Shepherd were both recent interesting reads for me. -
Thank you, both look excellent! As you know I dated someone with a PhD in solar plasma physics so have always felt unqualified to read a book on something I’ve only got a GCSE in.

Matthew Walker’s “Why We Sleep”

This seems a big recommendation from people, and there have been lots of books on sleep to choose from. How much harm has Thatcher done, I wonder.
