My cannula hurts like hell, has been in for a week, and I’ve complained about it repeatedly, so might just take it out myself.

SOP isn't it? "In case we need it immediately". TBH, I accept that, I'd hate to have to wait for something to be administered under ward pressure when there's a convenient conduit in place

If you didn’t have fluids or meds through it already then my guess would be in case you needed iv benzos to treat a >5min seizure.

Yeah, I think you’re right. Never had a +5 min seizure, but they’ve mentioned a few times that there’s diazepam in my meds locker

Sorry I don’t know your full story - but please ask someone to review your vein site - regular “VIP” assessments should have been done to identify hidden problems; thrombophlebitis is possible. http://www.vipscore.net/wp-content/uploads/2012/04/002-IV3000-A4-score-and-vein-card.pdf …

Erk, will ask the nurse who was dispensing my meds to have a look when she comes back. Seems fine, didn’t bleed, and has stopped hurting now I’ve taken it out.
