Amazing isn’t it. I’ll always remember a piece I read about a woman getting chased for a bill for her stillbirth. The inhumanity of it.

Yep, friend posted up the bill her friends were being chased for over the stillbirth of her twins in the middle of Covid recently, horrifying.

Genuinely reads like a short horror story.

Having to stop doctors testing your baby’s hearing to incur $1000s in charges, just horrifying. Saw one guy recently who had a heart attack & the hospital he was rushed to wasn’t on his insurer’s “approved providers” so they refused to pay.

This is awful! And what a lot of stress for people at an already incredibly stressful time.

Worked in travel insurance & was responsible for paying US hospitals. We had a cost control department which would contact them & scrutinise the bills before knocking off loads of unnecessary costs.

Yep, heard so many similar stories: most recently a friend who had a heart attack who was told he was taken to a hospital “not covered” by insurers and should have checked beforehand. When he was unconscious in an ambulance.

It's the admin that's always so shocking. You have to become some sort of healthcare expert just to navigate all the options. Must be so stressful at a time when you really don't need stress.
