Re Line of Duty: Steve’s painkiller addiction as he says is over the counter, so would the strongest OTC painkiller (eg cocodamol) show up on a work drug test or be banned? I assumed the storyline would be him nicking morphine from a crime scene not panicking about Nurofen Plus.

But if he had a prescription from a doctor for these meds, wouldn't that excuse a positive result on a drug test? It does here in the US. Also, codeine is OTC in the UK, could someone really lose their job for taking it? This doesn't make sense to me at all

I used to admin the drugs tests for some banks in the City (before I did medicine)- codeine used to flag up. But if he had an official prescription I think it used to be written off, as long as levels were plausible
