I asked a doctor about this after last week's episode, and apparently the quantity he's been taking would be very visible both in the drugs themselves and his blood chemistry because they will have affected his kidneys.

A drug test is quite a blunt instrument so four nurofen plus would probably show opiates present.
-
That’d make more sense - I assumed there’d be levels since it was a common and legally prescribed as well as OTC drug

I think the idea is that it would show up on the test, but then raise questions about the underlying injury making him unfit for duty.

Ah, that’d make more sense

Anything with codeine would definitely show up, as it's technically an opiate. It's used in a few street drug mixtures as well, so I imagine the police definitely screen for it.
-
I don't think it would necessarily flag up as unusual - it's not illegal to take painkillers, after all. But the doctor would probably bring it up to see what the person said, and if it's about pain in his back/a recurring injury, they'd probably refer to occ. health.

Codeine will show up as opiates. I think one of the boxes was for a made up brand of benzos as well.
-
The benzos would have to come from a doctor though?
