Constantly dismissing concerns over domestic vaccine passport plans with “well some countries require proof you’ve had the yellow fever vaccine” just isn’t good enough.https://twitter.com/ftukpolitics/status/1379485878872064011 …

The quickest, easiest, safest way to return to “normal” is to vaccinate people as quickly as possible, and it’s worth asking why an incredibly complex plan involving a lot of personal data is being pushed into the headlines at the moment over that plan, and who benefits.

This is a completely different to requiring individuals pay privately for a vaccine & certification for international travel. It’s also not likely to happen, but draws people’s attention away from vaccination & lets the government test public opinion on civil liberties post-Covid

the word 'passport' is phenomenally and infuriatingly misleading here too

Precisely this. No one’s called the vaccine cards we’ve been given “passports” but the concept of a digital app loaded with personal data - and nothing suggested for older people without smartphones, suspect - is sinister.

also it's allowed for a huge amount crossed wires in communication, people posting 'well you get your tb shot to go to xy country don't you?' as though we're literally talking about international travel. we're not???

find it frustrating beyond belief that the conversation is about benefits vs inconvenience? we KNOW there are benefits to mandatory health disclosure, but the costs aren't inconvenience, they're much worse things. covid exceptionalism and trauma has done a lot of brains in imo

Precisely! Also, people seem to massively overestimate how often people over 50 go to the pub. It’s clear *if* it came in it would only be so the govt could say “we let you open didn’t we?” to justify removing financial support for closed businesses.
