Most recent “IN OUR DAYS” viral gif I’ve seen listed joys was a poem titled “Corned Beef” and was all about some rose-tinted childhood where food was *never* frozen always fresh cooked, women didn’t complain, and children had nor needed no money for toys.

All this shared on the Facebook of a bloke *my age* from school, whose views on social media seem to have swung sharply from centrist to hard right since inheriting his dad’s Mauritian factories a few years ago.

The bloke who shared it, posted below, had an incredible fragile ego and was prone to self absorbed tantrums when people disagreed with him in 2005 (oops, 1905) so imagine he can find a lot that resonates here with his own wealthy childhood experience.pic.twitter.com/E5Hd31OE8X

Apparently the original poem was from Australia, author still unknown bar nostalgia-fetishism ahistorical sites, and someone decided to swap “cheese” for “corned beef” despite cheese existing in the Northern Hemisphere, and syllables, scansion, metre etc etc

Yes, exactly! History was probably the A Level I remember my classmates enjoying the most, because so much was about interpretation, ethical questions around sources/motives etc, argument, and just how you can only scratch the surface of any good study with years of work.
