Agree fully with this: they can be a really great leveller and forcing parents to buy from certain shops/buy school badges should be banned.https://twitter.com/Helen_Barnard/status/1374316510232084488 …

I had to wear some of my sisters' school uniform initially aged 8. Aged 8-10 I only had an old grey junior school skirt from another school at weekends with a hand me down top! I think c. aged 12 mum had enough money to take me out and buy 1 outfit from Etam! I was cockahoop!

Dawn, now I think about it, even this party frock
was my sister's [I remember hem taken up massively]. I was 4, my brother 22 months older, people used to think we were twins until aged 10.https://www.yumpu.com/xx/document/view/65194104/siblings-1965-ed …

It‘s fine if you can meet requirements from the local George, but when the school has individually embossed jumpers costing £40 each it becomes more of an issue. My old state school had blazers, but just for yr 7 and 8. Blazers, I tell you.

That’s why I said in my tweet they shouldn’t be able to do that.

The issue is it's painfully obvious who's wearing the faded uniform with 5 previous owners in a way it wouldn't be if everyone was wearing different clothes
